Overview

Bhutan is unlike any other destination in the world. No traffic noise, no billboards, no crowds. Just mountain air, ancient monasteries, flower-lined valleys, and a pace of life that makes you slow down and actually be present — which is exactly what a honeymoon should feel like.

Itinerary

Day 01 Arrive in Paro | Transfer to Thimphu | Settle In

Paro International Airport is surrounded on all sides by the Himalayas — only a handful of pilots in the world are certified to land here, and the approach through the peaks is genuinely spectacular. Have your camera ready before descent.

Our driver and guide will meet you at the airport for a private transfer to Thimphu — Bhutan’s capital city, about 1.5 hours from Paro. Check in to your hotel, freshen up, and take the rest of the day at your own pace.

Thimphu is a calm, walkable city with a mix of traditional Bhutanese architecture and quiet café culture. Spend the evening strolling around, trying local food, or simply resting after the journey.

Today’s Schedule:

  • Arrive at Paro International Airport (PBH) — enjoy the Himalayan aerial views
  • Meet your private driver and English-speaking guide
  • Transfer to Thimphu (approximately 1.5 hours)
  • Hotel check-in and rest
  • Free evening — explore Thimphu town at your own pace
  • Overnight stay in Thimphu

Day 02 Thimphu City Tour | Culture, Crafts & Mountain Views

Today you explore Thimphu with your guide. The city is compact and walkable, which makes it easy to cover the main sites without feeling rushed. Each stop tells you something different about Bhutan — its beliefs, its art, its history, and its unusual approach to governance.

Start at the National Memorial Chorten — a large, beautifully maintained stupa built in memory of the third King. Locals come here every morning to walk the circumference and pray. It’s a deeply peaceful spot, especially in the early hours.

From there, visit the Buddha Dordenma — a 54-metre bronze Buddha statue seated on a hilltop above Thimphu, with panoramic views of the entire valley. One of the most impressive landmarks in all of Bhutan, and a beautiful place to spend time together as a couple.

Continue to Takin Zoo, home of Bhutan’s unique national animal — the Takin, which looks like a cross between a goat and a wildebeest and exists nowhere else in the wild. Stop at the National Library and Folk Heritage Museum to understand how Bhutanese life has been preserved over centuries. End the sightseeing portion at Trashichho Dzong — Thimphu’s main fortress and the seat of the government, best viewed from outside in the late afternoon light.

In the evening, head to the Handicraft Bazaar and Clock Tower Square for local shopping — thangka paintings, woven fabric, wooden crafts, and incense make for beautiful souvenirs.

Today’s Schedule:

  • National Memorial Chorten — stupa and morning prayer walk
  • Buddha Dordenma — 54-metre hilltop Buddha with valley views
  • Takin Zoo — Bhutan’s national animal, found nowhere else
  • National Library & Folk Heritage Museum
  • Trashichho Dzong — view from outside (government fortress)
  • Handicraft Bazaar & Clock Tower Square — local shopping and evening walk
  • Overnight stay in Thimphu

Day 03Thimphu → Punakha via Dochula Pass | River Valley & Dzong

Today you drive from Thimphu to Punakha — a journey of about 3 hours that takes you over the Dochula Pass at 10,000 feet. On a clear day, you can see more than a dozen Himalayan peaks from this pass, including some of the highest in Bhutan. The 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens (dome-shaped memorials) lined along the ridge make for some of the most striking couple photos of the entire trip.

On the descent, stop at the Royal Botanical Park in Lamperi — a quiet forest park that is especially beautiful in spring when the rhododendrons are in bloom.

After lunch, visit Chimi Lhakhang — the Fertility Temple, a short walk through mustard fields to a small hilltop monastery. It’s a unique and deeply cultural experience, particularly meaningful for newly married couples.

End the day at Punakha Dzong — considered the most beautiful dzong in Bhutan. It sits at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers (the father and mother rivers), and the sight of the fortress reflected in the water at golden hour is something you won’t forget.

Today’s Schedule:

  • Scenic drive to Dochula Pass (10,000 ft) — panoramic Himalayan views
  • 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens — one of the best couple photo spots in Bhutan
  • Royal Botanical Park, Lamperi — forested park and rhododendron trail
  • Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple) — short walk through mustard fields
  • Punakha Dzong — fortress at the confluence of two rivers
  • Check-in to Punakha hotel
  • Overnight stay in Punakha

Day 04Phobjikha Valley (Gangtey) Day Trip | Bhutan's Most Peaceful Valley

Today is a day excursion to Phobjikha Valley — also called Gangtey Valley — a wide, glacial valley surrounded by forested hills that is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful landscapes in Bhutan.

The drive there and back is part of the experience — winding through forests, past small villages, and along rivers. Arrive at the valley and take a short walk to Gangtey Monastery (Gangtey Goenpa), one of the most important monasteries of the Nyingmapa school of Buddhism, perched on a small hill with sweeping views of the valley below.

Spend the rest of the time in the valley at your own pace. Walk along the valley floor, sit by the stream, breathe the mountain air, and simply be present. If you’re visiting between November and February, you may spot the rare Black-necked Cranes that migrate here from Tibet for the winter — one of Bhutan’s most special wildlife sightings.

Return to Punakha in the late afternoon.

Today’s Schedule:

  • Scenic drive to Phobjikha Valley (Gangtey) — approximately 2 hours each way
  • Gangtey Monastery — hilltop monastery with panoramic valley views
  • Leisurely walk through the valley floor
  • Black-necked Crane spotting (November–February)
  • Return drive to Punakha
  • Overnight stay in Punakha

Day 05Punakha → Paro | Riverside Drive & A Leisurely Afternoon

Check out from your Punakha hotel and drive back toward Paro — your base for the final two nights of the trip. The return drive retraces part of the Dochula Pass route, which looks completely different in the other direction and at a different time of day.

Stop at the Chuzom confluence point — where the Paro and Thimphu rivers meet — for a short scenic break and some photos. Then continue into Paro, check in to your hotel, and spend the afternoon at complete leisure.

Paro is Bhutan’s most charming town — a single main street lined with traditional painted shophouses, cafés, and craft shops. Walk around, pick up souvenirs, have a quiet lunch, or simply sit by the Paro River and watch the afternoon pass. This is one of the most relaxed days of the trip and couples consistently say it’s one of their favourites.

Today’s Schedule:

  • Check out from Punakha hotel
  • Scenic drive to Paro via Dochula Pass (approximately 3.5 hours)
  • Short stop at Chuzom confluence — where Paro and Thimphu rivers meet
  • Check-in to Paro hotel
  • Free afternoon — walk the main street, visit cafés, browse local shops
  • Optional: riverside stroll or early evening spa booking
  • Overnight stay in Paro

Day 06Paro Sightseeing | Dzong, Ancient Temples & Tiger's Nest Base

Today is a full day of sightseeing in and around Paro — and it’s one of the most rewarding days of the trip. The valley holds some of Bhutan’s oldest and most important heritage sites, and they’re all within easy driving distance of each other.

Start with Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong) — a beautiful 17th-century fortress built on a cliff above the Paro River. Walk across the traditional covered bridge to reach it, and spend time exploring the courtyards and shrines inside. Adjacent to the dzong is the National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong) — housed in a circular watchtower, with an excellent collection of Bhutanese art, weaponry, stamps, and textiles.

Next, visit Kyichu Lhakhang — one of the oldest and most sacred temples in Bhutan, said to have been built in the 7th century by the Tibetan Emperor Songtsen Gampo. It’s a small, quiet temple with an atmosphere that feels genuinely ancient.

Continue to the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong — a 17th-century fortress built to celebrate a victory over a Tibetan invasion, now a romantic and atmospheric ruin with views of Mount Jomolhari (7,326m) on clear days.

End the day at the base of Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang) — Bhutan’s most famous landmark, clinging impossibly to a sheer cliff face 900 metres above the valley floor. You can hike to the base viewpoint (about 45 minutes) for the best photographs, or simply admire it from the valley. If you’d like to complete the full hike to the monastery itself, this can be arranged as an add-on (approximately 3 hours each way).

Today’s Schedule:

  • Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong) — 17th-century riverside fortress
  • National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong) — art, history, and culture
  • Kyichu Lhakhang — one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples
  • Ruins of Drukgyel Dzong — atmospheric ruins with Jomolhari mountain views
  • Tiger’s Nest Monastery base viewpoint (Paro Taktsang) — the defining image of Bhutan
  • Evening at leisure — Paro town, dinner, or optional spa
  • Overnight stay in Paro

Day 07Breakfast & Departure | Carry Bhutan Home With You

Check out from your Paro hotel after a relaxed breakfast. Your private driver will transfer you to Paro International Airport with comfortable time to spare before your flight.

You’ll leave Bhutan quieter than you arrived — in the best way possible. The mountains, the monasteries, the clean air, and the mornings by the river have a way of settling something in you. Most couples say they start planning a return trip before they’ve even boarded the plane home.

Today’s Schedule:

  •  Leisurely breakfast at the hotel
  • Hotel check-out
  • Private transfer to Paro International Airport (PBH)
  • Departure — with memories worth carrying for a long time

FAQs

Is this package only for honeymooners?

Not at all. While the itinerary is designed with couples in mind, it works perfectly for any two people travelling together — whether you’re newly married, celebrating an anniversary, or simply on a romantic trip. The pacing, the hotel choices, and the activities all suit couples at any stage.

Do Indian citizens need a visa to visit Bhutan?

Indian passport holders do not need a separate Bhutan visa. You can enter Bhutan with a valid Indian passport, voter ID, or Aadhar card. However, a Bhutan permit (Inner Line Permit) is required and will be arranged for you as part of the booking process. There is also a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) levied by the Bhutan government — we will clarify the applicable charges based on your travel dates when you enquire.

How do we get to Paro from India?

Two airlines fly to Paro International Airport — Druk Air (Bhutan’s national airline) and Bhutan Airlines. Flights operate from Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Guwahati. Flight time from Mumbai is approximately 3.5–4 hours. Flights are not included in the land package, but we can assist with booking. Ask us when you enquire for current fare options from your city.

What is the total cost of a Bhutan honeymoon from India?

The land package starts at ₹45,000 per person, covering all accommodation, daily breakfast, transport, guide, and entry tickets. For a couple, the total land cost is approximately ₹90,000 for the base package. Flights (approximately ₹15,000–₹25,000 per person depending on your city and dates), SDF charges, and personal expenses are additional. We will give you a complete, itemised cost estimate when you share your travel dates and preferences.

What is the best time to visit Bhutan for a honeymoon?

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the two best seasons. Spring brings clear skies, blooming rhododendrons, and the famous Paro Festival (Tsechu) in March/April. Autumn offers the clearest mountain views and the best conditions for the Phobjikha Valley and Black-necked Cranes. Summer (June–August) is the monsoon season — it rains but the landscape is very green and hotels are quieter. Winter (December–February) is cold but very peaceful and affordable.

Can we do the Tiger's Nest hike?

Yes. The full hike to Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery) takes approximately 3 hours each way and involves a significant climb on a well-maintained trail. The views from the monastery are extraordinary. It’s one of the most memorable things you can do in Bhutan. We include the base viewpoint walk in the main itinerary, and the full hike can be added as an optional extra — just let us know when you book.

Is Bhutan safe for couples travelling from India?

Yes. Bhutan is consistently ranked as one of the safest countries in Asia for tourists. Crime rates are very low, the people are warm and welcoming, and the country’s approach to tourism is highly regulated — which means a more personal and less crowded experience. Solo women travellers and couples from India travel to Bhutan regularly without any concerns.

Can we choose our hotels?

Absolutely. We will share curated options in each location — boutique heritage hotels, cosy riverside stays, mountain-view resorts, and luxury options — with pricing at each level. You choose what fits your budget and the kind of experience you want. If you want a farmhouse stay in Punakha or a luxury resort in Paro, we can arrange that.

Are there special arrangements for honeymooners?

Yes. We can arrange flower and balloon room decoration on arrival, a private candlelight dinner by the river or in your hotel garden, a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath for two, and cultural dress photoshoots in Gho and Kira (traditional Bhutanese attire). Just mention it’s a honeymoon when you enquire and we’ll add the right touches.

Can the itinerary be customised?

Completely. If you’d like to spend more time in Punakha, add a hike, include a cooking class, or build in a completely free day — we can adjust the plan. Every package we offer is shaped around what the couple actually wants, not a fixed template. Just tell us your preferences at the time of enquiry.

What currency is used in Bhutan?

The local currency is the Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN), which is pegged at 1:1 with the Indian Rupee. Indian Rupees are widely accepted throughout Bhutan (except ₹2000 notes, which may not be accepted at smaller shops). ATMs are available in Thimphu and Paro. Credit cards are accepted at most hotels but may not work at small local shops.
