Day 2 is your full day in Port Blair, and it covers a wide range of experiences that give the whole family a clear picture of the island’s past, present, and natural character before you head out to the outer islands.
The morning begins with the Cellular Jail itself — a proper daytime visit to walk through the cells, corridors, and gallows of the most famous prison in Indian history. The Chatham Saw Mill, one of Asia’s oldest and largest sawmills, still operates in Port Blair and is genuinely interesting to visit with children — the scale of the colonial-era timber operations is extraordinary. The Naval Marine Museum (Samudrika) gives an excellent overview of the island’s marine ecology, tribal communities, and natural history, with displays that are educational and engaging for all ages. The Fisheries Museum and the Anthropological Museum complete the cultural picture of the city.
The afternoon is reserved for Chidiatapu — the southernmost tip of South Andaman Island, approximately 25 kilometres from Port Blair. The name means ‘Bird Island’ and this forested coastal point is one of the best sunset spots in the entire andaman and nicobar islands. Mangrove creeks, birdlife, and a beachfront that turns amber and gold in the last hour of light make this one of those quiet, understated stops that families consistently rate as a surprise highlight of the best andaman tour package.
